An annual herb up to 10-35 cm tall, with stout rhizome, found in temperate, sub-alpine and alpine zones.
Plant Description:
Leaves simple, elliptic-lanceolate to strap shaped, obtuse, denticulate, with yellow farina on underside, sheathed at the base with prominent brownish red bud scales. Inflorescence an umbel,capitate,many flowered. Flower mauve to pinkish-blue. Calyx 4-10 mm long, tubular, ovoid. Corolla tube long, throat light yellow. Fruit a capsule, subglobose-obovoid. Seed angular.
Flowering and Fruiting:
May-July.
Harvesting Time:
June-September.
Medicinal Value:
Locally flower extract is used as ophthalmic (eye problems) and hair tonic.

Flower and rhizome.
Occurrence:
Common at high altitudes.
