Habit & Habitat:
A biennial, exotic herb, up to 1.5 m tall, has been cultivated and introduced in AJK.
Plant Description:
Leaves simple, deeply lobed,arching,gary-green,wooly. Inflorescence a disc shaped capitulum,terminal.Flower purple.Fruit a cypsela.
Flowering and Fruiting:
May-July.
Harvesting Time:
May-August.
Medicinal Value:
Artichoke stimulates bile secretion and with leaf and root included in digestive tonics.Also treating hardening of arteries anemia,hepatitis and lowers cholesterol level.[12] Locally usage of dried powder of leaves releases body pains and helpful in indigestion.
