Habit and Habitat:
A gregarious shrub up to 2-3m tall, common in temperate zone, forming dominant under shrub in forest clearings.
Taxonomic Features:
Leaves simple, elliptic-oblong, toothed, under surface glabrous. Inflorescence terminal, sessile corymbs. Flower actinomorphic, pink. Calyx tube glabrous, short lobes, ciliate. Corolla long-tubular, lobes round. Fruit a drupe, ellipsoid, 8-9mm long, reddish black when ripe.
Flowering and Fruiting:
November-May.
Harvesting Time:
June-September.
Medicinal Value:
Fruit is edible and digestive, useful in stomach problems.[10] Local people use bark decoction for hepatic problems.
